Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) originated in ancient China and has evolved over thousands of years making it the world’s oldest continuously practiced medicine. There are currently 5,767 medicinal substances in use that can be drawn upon to make customized individual herbal formulas that take into account the Chinese medical diagnosis, the symptoms the patient is experiencing, and the individual constitution of the patient. This is important and what makes this medicine so unique and effective. In TCM, ten people could be presenting with nausea and vomiting and all ten would be prescribed a different formula. Symptoms are just seen as clues to an underlying pattern or Chinese medical diagnosis. By treating the underlying pattern, the root of the problem is being treated and multiple symptoms that may have appeared unrelated to the patient may subside.
To make these individualized formulas, most of the medicinal substances used are different parts of plants, such as leaves, roots, stems, flowers, and seeds. Some minerals and animal products are used also. The herbal formulas can be prepared and consumed in a variety of different ways, such as decoctions or teas, capsules, pills, liquid extracts, granules, or powders. Herbs can also be prepared for external use, such as salves for skin rashes and liniments and compresses for pain. Chinese herbs are extremely safe and unlike pharmaceutical drugs that are made synthetically, the compounds in herbs are in their natural state thereby allowing them to work naturally with the body to regain health and reducing the likelihood of negative side effects. According to clinical studies, herbs can also increase the effectiveness of modern drug treatment and reduce their negative side effects. All the herbs at Harmonizing Healthcare are manufactured in a modern facility that meets and exceeds international GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. They are prepared in a rigorously controlled environment to protect against contamination and tested to meet or exceed U.S. Pharmacopeia standards.
