Flagstaff is home to many professional and student athletes as well as weekend warriors. We live and work in an outdoor recreation paradise so we want to be able to get outdoors and feel our best through every season. Getting regular acupuncture is a fantastic way to keep the active body at its optimal performance level.
It’s also incredibly important in the early stages of injury to immediately decrease pain and inflammation. Acupuncture is very supportive to healing chronic injuries or post surgical healing and recovery as well. And, one of the greatest strengths of Acupuncture in general is as a preventative maintenance therapy, meaning that it can keep you at your best in order to avoid injury in the first place.
Milissa specializes in Balance Method Acupuncture which is one of the best systems out there for relieving pain instantaneously. The Balance Method heavily utilizes the myofacial meridians to release stuck areas and loosen up the muscles, tendons and fascia, lending to increased mobility, improved range of motion and optimal performance.
With Balance Method Acupuncture the area where you have the pain is never needled. Instead, a distal set of acupoints are chosen. Oftentimes, once the first few needles have been inserted, you will be asked to test or move the injured area and you will be amazed at the instant improvement!
While Acupuncture for Athletes will mainly focus on pain relief and increased mobility, Milissa also offers support in optimizing your entire wellness as an athlete. Athletes have such unique demands on their bodies, so she may give recommendations for diet, lifestyle and possibly supplements that will support the optimization of your active body.
At your first appointment, she will perform a differential diagnosis from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective and you will receive an email with this information along with a treatment plan that you can read in the patient portal and access anytime.
Acupuncture for Athletes is best utilized as part of regular health maintenance and will be especially effective with regular consistent treatments. Then, as you prepare for a competition, a big effort or race day, having acupuncture in the weeks leading up to the event will be incredibly beneficial.
Take care of that nagging little pain that has you worried or give the knees, hips and ankles extra support. You want to keep the Qi flowing through your meridians for optimal balance and circulation and of course Acupuncture also supports a great night’s sleep leading up to your event.
If you are someone who struggles with anxiety or nervousness before a big event or competition, acupuncture will really help get you calm and emotionally balanced. Feel your best in body, mind and spirit with Acupuncture.
